Safeguarding Policy Statement
The purpose of this safeguarding policy statement is:
· to protect children and young people who receive BWA’s services from harm. This includes the children of adults who use our services
· to protect vulnerable adults who receive BWA’s services from harm.
· to provide staff and volunteers, as well as children and young people, vulnerable adults and their families, with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.
This policy applies to anyone working on behalf of BWA including senior managers and the board of trustees, paid staff, volunteers, sessional workers, agency staff and students.
Current Vacancies
Children and Young People’s Worker
Full Time: 22.5 to 30 hours per week
Salary: FTE £24,255 – £27,200 (pro rata £14,553 – £21,759) per annum
Contract: Fixed Term – 12 months
We are looking to recruit a committed Children and Young People’s Worker based in Reading but providing services across BWA service areas and refuges including Bracknell, West Berkshire and Wokingham. We are looking for an individual who has an understanding of domestic abuse and is able to manage, organise and deliver sessions to children and young people, whist supporting their welfare and empowering them in their recovery from domestic abuse.
Your role will involve gaining consent from care takers and completing risk assessments for those referred to our programmes, and ensuring our administrative processes and safeguarding policies are adhered to at all times. We are looking for an individual who is experienced in one-to-one and group work with children and young people and able to work in a fast-paced environment and is committed to building strong relationships with a wide range of professional agencies.
For the above vacancy, the ideal candidate will have experience of working with children and young people in a confidential and safeguarding environment, and have an understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on families. A full driving licence and/or easy access to transport is essential

DIVERSE COMMUNITIES OUTREACH WORKER (Reading, Bracknell West Berkshire)
Full Time: 30 – 37.5 hours per week
Salary: FTE £24,255 – £27,200 (pro rata £19,404 – £21,759) per annum
Contract: Permanent
As a Diverse Communities Outreach Worker, your job will be to provide high quality support, risk assessment, information and advocacy to clients from Black, Asian or Minoritised Communities who have experienced domestic abuse. The role is intended to undertake active engagement work with community organisations and individuals, raising awareness of domestic abuse, BWA services and reducing barriers for survivors who may find it harder to access services. Your role is to empower our clients, keeping the safety of them and their children central to our interventions. We are looking for an individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and is committed to building strong relationships with a wide range of professional agencies. The Diverse Communities Outreach Worker role is fully funded by the National Lottery.
For the above vacancy, the ideal candidate will be fluent in another language other than English, representative of our local communities. They will have experience of working in a confidential and safeguarding environment, and have an understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on families. SAFE ACCOMMODATION OUTREACH WORKER (Bracknell)
Full Time: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: FTE £24,255 to £27,200 per annum
Contract: Fixed term for 12 months
We are looking to recruit a committed Safe Accommodation Outreach Worker to provide support, risk assessment, information and advocacy to clients who have experienced domestic abuse, with a particular focus on those who currently reside within safe accommodation provided by the local authority. Your role is to empower our clients, keeping the safety of them and their children central to our interventions, providing advocacy and assistance to enable clients to remain safe in their homes and or secure longer term accommodation. We are looking for an individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and is committed to building strong relationships with a wide range of professional agencies.
Full induction and training is provided and we are interested in hearing from anyone who feels they have transferrable skills from previous roles and is passionate about providing support to survivors of domestic abuse.

This role exists to shape and protect the public voice of Berkshire Women’s Aid. You will lead on media, PR and communications, ensuring our work, impact and values are clearly, sensitively and powerfully represented across all channels.
You will help us move from being known locally to being recognised, trusted and understood, while always centering survivor voice and safety.
This role is responsible for growing sustainable, values-led income for Berkshire Women’s Aid. You will develop and deliver fundraising activity that balances community warmth with strategic ambition — ensuring we can continue and expand our support to survivors.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building relationships, spotting opportunity and turning goodwill into long-term support.
For the above vacancy, the ideal candidate will have a strong judgment and confidence in handling sensitive issues with an understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and ethical storytelling. Proven experience in communications, media or PR and experience in pitching to and working with the media is also required for this role. We are looking for candidates who will be organised, proactive and comfortable with managing multiple priorities with experience in fundraising either from a paid or voluntary previous role. You will need to be able to build strong relationships and be a confident communicator.
