Safeguarding Policy Statement
The purpose of this safeguarding policy statement is:
· to protect children and young people who receive BWA’s services from harm. This includes the children of adults who use our services
· to protect vulnerable adults who receive BWA’s services from harm.
· to provide staff and volunteers, as well as children and young people, vulnerable adults and their families, with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.
This policy applies to anyone working on behalf of BWA including senior managers and the board of trustees, paid staff, volunteers, sessional workers, agency staff and students.

Domestic Abuse Helpline Worker
Part Time: 22.5 to 30 hours per week
Salary: £24,804 – £27,300 FTE
(Pro rata for 30 hours per week £19,843 – £21,840) per annum
(Pro rata for 22.5 hours per week £14,882 – £16,380) per annum
Contract: Permanent
We are looking to recruit a committed part-time Domestic Abuse Helpline Worker based at our offices in Reading on a hybrid basis. BWA provide Helpline services Monday to Saturday (including some evenings) and are currently seeking a team member who is able to work flexibly around our opening times (Monday & Thursday 9am to 7pm, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm).
Helpline is often the first point of contact for survivors and professionals; Helpline Workers undertake a range of tasks including crisis intervention, risk assessments and referrals for those seeking support, as well as providing comprehensive advice to professionals. As part of the helpline team, you will answer calls, respond to voice messages, live chat and emails and collect the monitoring data on our helpline.
We are looking for an individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and is committed to building strong relationships with a wide range of professional agencies.
BWA provides full induction and training to new team members to develop the skills required for this specialist role.

Domestic Abuse Helpline Worker Job Description April 2026 – part time
DIVERSE COMMUNITIES OUTREACH WORKER (Reading, Bracknell West Berkshire)
Full Time: 30 – 37.5 hours per week
Salary: FTE £25,225 – £28,288(pro rata £20,180 to £22,630) per annum
Contract: Permanent
As a Diverse Communities Outreach Worker, your job will be to provide high quality support, risk assessment, information and advocacy to clients from Black, Asian or Minoritised Communities who have experienced domestic abuse. The role is intended to undertake active engagement work with community organisations and individuals, raising awareness of domestic abuse, BWA services and reducing barriers for survivors who may find it harder to access services. Your role is to empower our clients, keeping the safety of them and their children central to our interventions. We are looking for an individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and is committed to building strong relationships with a wide range of professional agencies. The Diverse Communities Outreach Worker role is fully funded by the National Lottery.
For the above vacancy, the ideal candidate will be fluent in another language other than English, representative of our local communities. They will have experience of working in a confidential and safeguarding environment, and have an understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on families. A full driving licence and access to transport is desirable
