Support for Children and Young People

BWA offers specialist support for children and young people affected by domestic abuse — whether they’ve witnessed it at home or are experiencing it in their own relationships.

Our experienced team runs 1:1 sessions and group programmes, tailored to different age groups and needs.

Our Programmes

Expect Respect (Ages 5–17)

This programme supports children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
We use fun, age-appropriate activities to help them:

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Learn how to stay safe

  • Understand and manage emotions

  • Develop healthy ways to handle conflict

Sessions are safe, supportive, and designed to help young people feel heard and empowered.

DART – Domestic Abuse Recovery Together (Ages 7–14 + Mothers)

DART is a joint programme for children and their mothers who have lived through domestic abuse.

It focuses on:

  • Rebuilding the mother-child relationship

  • Helping both recover from the emotional impact of abuse

  • Creating a safe space to talk, heal, and grow together
